Autumn Winter Thoughts

Summer has passed and autumn is here. We spent our summer supplying schools and churches
with new Bibles to give away to students leaving primary schools for the next stage of their
adventure and we trust that their Bibles will be a part of that too. It’s always a privilege that schools
come to us and we were delighted to get orders from new customers from Preston and Carlisle, and
to be able to save them money by helping them as well.
Now we look forward to Christmas, always a special time. We have Christmas cards in stock right
now from our usual charities Leprosy Mission and Compassion; and we also have cards supporting
UK Foodbanks as well. Advent books have started to roll in and the new Archbishop of York is first
out of the traps with Sleepers Wake, about the Christian response to climate change at this time of
the year. On that theme, we partnered up with a local minister who works for a Christian charity A
Rocha to offer a ‘Green bookshelf (literally: I used craft skills last practised in front of Blue Peter as a
child to cover the shelf in green card!)’ this autumn full of Christian books on the environment and
climate change which was a big success.
The most exciting news of all is that we have a new employee! We were delighted that Lynne will be
joining us in October as a new part time Bookseller. Lynne has previously worked in lots of Christian
roles including running a Christian bookshop herself, so I am really happy to have her assistance
here and I am sure you will all be keen to pop in and meet her too.
Please do keep telling everyone you know about the bookshop especially at this vital time of year.
From Advent Calendars (edible and not) to Advent Candles, Books to Bibles, Gifts to Greetings
Cards, we have everything that people need to spread the blessing of the Christmas message far
and wide, so send them our way!
We so value your support.
Thank you and God Bless
Matt
